herbs for the winter months
During the colder months you can help to keep your immune system strong and healthy by using herbs
If you supply your body with the nutrients that are required to maintain health you can help avoid the colds and influenza that are prevalent during this season
I have listed some of my favourites below
These herbs can be mixed together and stored in a jar
Have two to three cups of the herb tea per day
To make the tea, add one to two teaspoons of dried herb per cup of boiling water
Seep the tea for 10 minutes
Along with using herbs a healthy diet is most important during colder months
Avoid processed foods and drinks as much as possible and drink water
Limit your sugar intake as only one hundred grams of sugar in any form (for example lollies, cordial, soft drinks, biscuits, cakes, chocolate) will reduce the ability of your neutrophils to defend your body. Neutrophils are white blood cells primarily responsible for defense against bacteria
Sugar will suppress your immune system and the effects can last for hours
This in turn may make you vulnerable to viruses and bacteria that cross your path
Ensure that the herbs you use are fresh, preferably organic.
Many of these herbs are easy to source or grow
Store herbs in an airtight container that is not exposed to sunlight
