tiredness and irritability
This is often a result of a lack of sleep, a common problem for any parent with young children
It can also be related to or made worse by a deficiency in vitamins and minerals
You can supplement your diet with the vitamins and minerals that are found in herb teas and by eating nutritious, high quality foods
What to do
- Nettles are a wonderfully nourishing herb containing the minerals calcium, phosphorus and iron, as well as vitamins and chlorophyll
- You can drink up to three cups of nettle tea per day. If you are lucky enough to have stinging nettle growing near you and it is uncontaminated, young nettle leaves can also be chopped and eaten in omelets, stews or soups
- Oats are a nourishing food that “feeds” your nervous system and as a result increases your resilience during times of stress
- When you are using herbs and foods always eat as fresh as possible and choosing organic or home-grown and the herbs correctly identified
- If possible, sleep when your baby sleeps
- If you have a toddler as well, make time each day for “quiet time” when you can all have a rest period during the day
- When you have a baby it is important to stay in tune with your own needs as well as your baby’s needs
- Ask for help when you need it
- Meet with other women who have babies so that you can support each other
